Standardised footbridges for pedestrians and light vehicles

With over 20 years’ experience and 800 footbridges installed in France and abroad, Tertu has built up solid expertise in the manufacture of wood and wood & steel structures.
Tertu designs footbridges that are both aesthetically pleasing and durable, meeting users’ expectations in terms of safety and comfort while respecting the environment and current regulations (Eurocodes).

With a clear span of up to 50 metres, Tertu footbridges are made to measure to adapt perfectly to the site where they are installed. They provide safe access for pedestrians, light vehicles and even farm machinery.

Versatile, these footbridges offer an ecological solution for crossing projects in urban and rural areas, as well as in protected natural areas.
They are particularly well suited to crossings over cycle paths or any other soft-traffic route.

The Tertu team supports projects from the design stage through to the installation of the footbridge.

This includes conceptualising the footbridge according to the conditions of location and use, carrying out soil surveys, advising on the layout of the surrounding area, managing transport and finally installing the structure.

EUROCODES: GUARANTEEING THE SAFETY OF FOOTBRIDGES

The Eurocodes are a set of 58 voluntary European standards harmonising the calculation methods that can be used to verify the stability and dimensioning of the various elements that make up civil engineering structures, whatever the type of structure or material.

These European codes for the design and calculation of structures are used to draw up Design Notes that include a description of the structure, material properties, climatic conditions, load combinations and so on.

The Design Notes therefore make it possible to dimension the structures reliably so as to ensure the safety of future users.

All Tertu footbridge structures are designed in accordance with the Eurocodes; the calculation note and execution plan are delivered when the work is ordered.

TERTU FOOTBRIDGES: SAFETY & SUSTAINABILITY

Wooden and wood/metal footbridges offer a durable, aesthetic and functional solution for public spaces. They are comfortable to walk on thanks to their grooved slats, and are also fitted with NF P98-405 wood or metal railings for added safety.

Tertu footbridges blend harmoniously into both urban and rural landscapes, thanks to the use of wood from PEFC-certified forests, treated in an autoclave without chromium or arsenic to guarantee greater durability while protecting the environment. This treatment protects the wood from wood-eating insects, fungi and other biological threats without harming the surrounding ecosystems.

TAILOR-MADE PRODUCTS

The design of Tertu footbridges takes full account of the constraints of the location and use of the structures in order to guarantee safety and durability.

– Foundations: concrete abutments or driven piles, depending on the characteristics of the soil, load distribution and accessibility.
– Railings: wood, wood-metal or all-metal solutions. Railings of varying heights tested to NF P98-405.
– Decking: grooved decking, the thickness of which is determined by the operating load, available in Douglas fir or oak. To ensure pedestrian comfort, an anti-slip system can be added, as well as integrated LEDs* for night-time lighting (electrical installation carried out by a local professional).
